The Spring education seminars for the Pacific Region will be held at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown located at 6083 McKay Avenue in Burnaby. The courses will run from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24, 2019.
The deadline for applications is February 11, 2019 at 3 p.m. All applications must be approved by your Local Executive and the registration form must be signed by the Local President or designate.
The following courses are being offered:
CLAIMING OUR POWER – FOR CUPW WOMEN
This course will develop a better understanding of women’s status in society and the Union. The goal is to empower women to fight for equality, gain a better understanding of the Union and its structures, cultivate ways to reach out to other women in the Union and to reach allies outside of the Union. The course objective is to aid in analytical and public speaking skills, and skills to work within the Union.
MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE
This course is designed for interested members to build awareness about the continuum of mental health in the workplace; to explore the impact of different forms of stigma towards people living with mental health problems; to expand understanding of some signs and symptoms of mental health problems and to discuss different support and accommodation measures; and to get to know about the type of resources available to support people with mental illness.
POLITICAL ACTION
This course covers different elements including building campaigns, meeting with elected officials and shifting them, and tips for more efficient activism. If postal workers are to achieve success all of us will need to ramp up our approach with clarity and conviction.
WELCOME TO CUPW
The purpose of this course is to explore all aspects of CUPW-STTP with newer members. The course provides a base for knowledge of who we are and what we do, and creates a sense of belonging and an understanding of the various areas in which CUPW works.
